Time fades my memory
Of things I do best
Yet I remember only the momentary
The first step I took with zest
The eyes see the world
Of colors, words in my book
Yet I remember only the glances
The first flitting look
The ears hear the voices on the street
Of people, musical chart
Yet I remember only the beat
The first gentle sound of heart
The hurt is deep in the act
Of callous anger, neglect
Yet I remember only the fact
The first word I reject
Love gets thick by holding
Of arms, limbs much
Yet I remember only the caressing
The first spine tingling touch
Fortune favors bravery
Of achievement at frontier
Yet I remember only the boundary
The first bridge crossed without fear
Life may be cruel without rhyme
Of grandeur, philosophy, disaster
Yet I remember only the time
The first moment of laughter
