7. The Dictionary

as the heat to a flame

the nerve of a writer’s fame

lies in the nature of a book

as a kitchen to a cook

this book is not hard to get

which after school most forget

age old it is but extra-ordinary

and is none other than the dictionary

to the man who loves words

with thoughts free as birds

belongs this treasure bible

to control diction like a bridle

as a fish out of water

or wet clay without potter

one day my world shook

without this ‘wordy’ book

I fell short of words

lost track as drunkards

could not imagine or think

all I could do was blink

from then on I realized

the dictionary is to be prized

to measure what it is worth

you need to be a writer by birth
